To prepare the syrup, place the sugar and water in a pot over heat and let it boil for 8 minutes, then add the lemon juice and let it boil for 2 more minutes before removing it from the heat and letting it cool.

To prepare the dough, in a bowl mix the dry ingredients for the dough, which are the salt and flour.

In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients for the dough, which are the apple cider vinegar, water, and oil.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and knead well by hand or with a mixer until you get a firm and slightly tough dough.

Divide the dough into 4 equal balls and place them in a tray greased with a little oil, cover them, and let them rest for at least 2 hours.

Mix the filling ingredients together and set aside.

Roll out the dough balls by hand, moistening your hands and the counter with a little melted butter, and use the back of your hand to gently roll it out like you would with flatbread until you get a very thin, transparent dough where you can see the surface of the counter through it, approximately square in size 50x50 cm.

Using a dough cutter, remove the thick edges of the dough, brush it with a little butter (do not use a brush as the dough is very thin), then fold the edges of the dough gently towards the center.

Place 2 tablespoons of the filling in the center of the folded dough, then fold the other edges to form a nearly square shape.

Brush with a little butter, then fold it again into an envelope shape and sprinkle a little butter on top.

Lift the maqluba and place it on a parchment paper in the baking tray, repeating the process with the remaining dough pieces until you have 4 maqluba.

Place the tray in the preheated oven at 225 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes until browned.

Remove the Palestinian maqluba with walnuts from the oven and pour the thick cold syrup (room temperature) over it, let it cool, then serve.
